Does KOHO work with Lodavo? What to connect instead

If you use KOHO, the answer today is no. A KOHO balance isn’t one of the accounts you can connect in Lodavo, and the reason isn’t that Plaid missed one. KOHO runs on a prepaid card rather than a deposit account at a bank. If you keep savings anywhere else in Canada, you can link that account instead and be in this week’s draw.
Why a KOHO balance isn’t something Lodavo can link
There’s no deposit account underneath it. The KOHO card is a reloadable prepaid Mastercard issued by KOHO Financial Inc., and when you switch on Earn Interest, KOHO places your funds in trust (opens in a new tab) with one or more CDIC member institutions. Money held in trust by a company on your behalf is a different arrangement from a chequing or savings account in your own name at a bank, and it’s a bank account that Plaid connects to.
Plaid, the service Lodavo uses to link accounts, covers over 99% of deposit accounts in Canada (opens in a new tab). What falls outside that is mostly app-first products built the way KOHO is. None of that is a knock on KOHO, and none of it is something Lodavo controls.
Where your savings probably already sit
Very few people use KOHO as their only account. Pay usually lands somewhere else, and so does whatever is set aside for a car, a trip, or a slow month. That other account is the one to link:
- Install Lodavo. It’s free.
- Start a bank connection and find the bank holding your pay or your savings.
- Sign in on Plaid’s secure screen.
- Choose the account you want tracked.
Your tickets follow that balance from then on. Save more in a given week and you get more tickets, with no minimum to start. You can link a second account and the balances are added together.
Which accounts connect?
| Your account | Connects to Lodavo? |
|---|---|
| Your KOHO spending balance | Not right now |
| A KOHO Vault or savings Goal | Not right now |
| Chequing or savings at TD, RBC, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC or National Bank | Yes |
| EQ Bank, Tangerine, Simplii or Wealthsimple Chequing | Yes |
| Desjardins and most credit unions | Yes |
Vaults and Goals sit inside the same KOHO balance rather than in separate accounts, which is why they’re on the same line as the rest of it. If you’re not sure about your other bank, the banks directory has every institution we’ve checked.
Is it safe to link a bank to Lodavo?
Yes. The connection runs through Plaid (opens in a new tab), and it’s built to hand over as little as it can:
- Lodavo never sees or stores your bank login. You type it into Plaid’s own window, and what comes back to Lodavo is a key to one account rather than your credentials.
- That key is read-only. We can see the balance to work out your tickets, and your purchases aren’t part of it.
You can cut the connection off from inside the app whenever you want. How Lodavo keeps your money safe and the draw provably fair covers the rest of it.
KOHO is working on a bank licence, and that would change the answer
KOHO raised $130 million in June 2026 and described it as the initial capital base for a federally regulated bank (opens in a new tab), subject to ministerial approval. A federally regulated bank holds deposits in accounts, and an account at a bank is exactly the thing Plaid connects to. So the structural reason this page opens with is also the reason a licence could undo it.
Whether that approval comes, when, and whether Plaid follows behind it, isn’t ours to promise. The answer on this page has a shelf life, so link an account that works now and give the connect screen another look further down the road.
Where a weekly draw fits if you already use KOHO
KOHO pays you on the spending side, with cash back on the card and up to 3.5% on a balance you’ve opted into Earn Interest with, depending on your plan (as of August 2026). None of that changes when you use Lodavo. Your KOHO plan, your cash back and your rate all stay exactly as they are.
What Lodavo adds is a reason to build up the account you did link. Every $25 you save earns a free ticket in that week’s draw, the top prize is $10,000, and at least $100 goes to a user every single week. A quiet week of saving still gets you in. If prize-linked savings is new to you, start with how it works in Canada.
