Does RBC work with Lodavo? How to connect Royal Bank of Canada

By Benjamin Thomas Published

Lodavo compatibility

Usually works

With some two-step sign-in setups, the RBC connection may not go through at all. This is outside our control; Plaid is aware of the issue and working on a fix.

You sign in through Plaid’s secure connection; Lodavo gets read-only access and never sees or stores your login.

If you bank with RBC, the short answer is yes: RBC works with Lodavo. Royal Bank of Canada is the country’s largest bank, and it was one of the first to sign a data-access agreement with Plaid, back in 2022, opening a secure connection for more than 14 million RBC clients. That’s the connection Lodavo uses, so an RBC chequing, savings, or TFSA balance links in a couple of minutes and starts earning you free draw tickets.

How to connect your RBC account to Lodavo

Two minutes in the Lodavo app:

  1. Grab Lodavo from the App Store or Google Play. It costs nothing.
  2. Start a bank connection and pick RBC Royal Bank from the list.
  3. Sign in on the secure Plaid screen with your RBC Online Banking details. They never pass through Lodavo.
  4. Choose which RBC account to track, and you’re done.

From then on, the more you keep saved at RBC, the more tickets land in that week’s draw.

Is it safe? What Lodavo can and can’t see

Yes, and the access is deliberately narrow. When RBC and Plaid signed their data-access agreement in 2022, the goal was an additional layer of protection, so you no longer have to share your login credentials to connect your financial information. Linking RBC to Lodavo uses that same bank-grade Plaid (opens in a new tab) connection. Two things are worth knowing:

  • Lodavo never sees your RBC sign-in. You authenticate on Plaid’s secure screen, and what comes back to Lodavo is scoped access, not your client card number or password.
  • What comes back is a balance, nothing more. The access is read-only and covers only the account you picked, so you can track your savings each week and earn free tickets. Your transactions, your credit cards, and your statements are all outside it.

You can disconnect RBC from inside Lodavo whenever you want. For the full picture, here’s how Lodavo keeps your money safe and the draw provably fair.

Which RBC account should you track?

Connect the RBC account where your savings actually sit. Most users link one of these:

RBC accountGood to track if
RBC chequing (Day to Day, Advantage, or Signature No Limit)You keep a steady cushion in your everyday account
RBC savings (High Interest eSavings or Enhanced Savings)You set money aside in a dedicated savings account
RBC TFSA (savings)You save inside a deposit-based Tax-Free Savings Account

Link more than one RBC account and the balances add up. An investment or brokerage account, like RBC Direct Investing or a self-directed TFSA, is what Lodavo can’t track yet, so stick to an account where your money sits as a cash balance. The more you keep saved across the accounts you pick, the more tickets you collect. There’s no minimum, and accounts at other Canadian banks can be linked alongside them.

Troubleshooting an RBC connection

Most RBC links go through on the first try. If yours doesn’t:

  • Enter your current RBC Online Banking sign-in (your client card number or username and password) on the secure screen, exactly as you would on RBC’s own site.
  • Complete RBC’s verification step if it prompts you for a one-time passcode.
  • With some two-step sign-in setups, the RBC connection may not go through at all. This one is a known Plaid issue that’s being worked on, and it’s outside Lodavo’s control. Reconnecting can help, and if you bank somewhere else too, you can track a deposit account there in the meantime.

RBC connections are common and well trodden, so a fresh link usually does the trick.

Why prize-linked savings fits RBC customers

Canadians aren’t saving much right now. The household saving rate slipped to 3.5% in the first quarter of 2026, the lowest since early 2024, according to Statistics Canada (opens in a new tab). Saving is a habit that pays off slowly and feels like nothing at all in the meantime.

Prize-linked savings changes the meantime. Nothing about your RBC account changes: the balance you keep there simply earns free tickets, and each week’s draw pays out up to $10,000, with at least $100 always going to a user. Even a small week of saving puts you in it. New to the idea? Start with how prize-linked savings works in Canada.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to connect my RBC account to Lodavo?

Yes. Your client card number and password are typed on Plaid's secure screen and go to RBC, never to Lodavo. Lodavo pays out prizes, never withdrawals, so there's no way for it to take money out of RBC.

Why won't my RBC account connect, and what can I do?

Most RBC connections work fine. With some two-step sign-in setups, though, the link may not go through. It's a known Plaid issue that's being worked on and is outside Lodavo's control. Try reconnecting, and if you bank elsewhere too, you can link another deposit account in the meantime.

Which RBC account should I connect?

Any RBC chequing or savings account where you keep money set aside, plus a deposit-based TFSA, and more than one is fine. An investment account like RBC Direct Investing is the one Lodavo can't track yet, so pick an account where your money sits as cash.

Will connecting RBC to Lodavo affect my RBC online banking?

No. Your RBC sign-in, the RBC app, and how you bank are all untouched. You can disconnect from inside Lodavo at any time.
