Does Tangerine work with Lodavo? How to connect your Tangerine account
Lodavo compatibility
Usually worksWith some setups, Tangerine asks for a fresh 2-Step Authentication Security Code about once a week to keep the connection active. This is outside our control; Plaid is aware and working on a fix.

If you bank with Tangerine, the short answer is yes: Tangerine works with Lodavo. Plaid names Tangerine directly in its Canadian coverage, next to the Big Five banks, so your Savings Account, chequing, or TFSA balance links in a couple of minutes with read-only access, and your money never leaves Tangerine. One quirk is worth knowing up front: some setups ask you for a fresh Security Code about once a week to keep the link alive.
How to connect your Tangerine account to Lodavo
Connecting takes about two minutes inside the Lodavo app:
- Download Lodavo (free) and create your account.
- Tap to connect a bank and choose Tangerine from the list.
- Sign in through the secure Plaid connection with your Client Number or username and your PIN. You enter your details on the bank-connection screen, not by handing your password to Lodavo.
- Enter the Security Code Tangerine sends you, if it asks for one.
- Pick the Tangerine account you want Lodavo to track, and you’re done.
From then on, Lodavo reads your balance each week and turns what you have saved into free tickets for that week’s draw. You move no money to set this up.
Is it safe? What Lodavo can and cannot see
Yes, and the access is deliberately narrow. Tangerine already knows this plumbing well: on its own account-linking help page, Tangerine describes Plaid (opens in a new tab) as a technology company it has partnered with to link financial accounts securely, and notes that the login you type for the other bank is never stored. Lodavo uses that same bank-grade connection, in the other direction. Two things matter for you:
- Lodavo never sees your Tangerine sign-in. You authenticate on Plaid’s secure screen, and Lodavo receives scoped, read-only access, not your Client Number or PIN.
- Lodavo cannot touch your money. Read-only means Lodavo can check your balance to award tickets and nothing else. It cannot move, hold, withdraw, or charge a cent. Your savings stay in your Tangerine account, earning whatever Tangerine already pays you.
You can disconnect Tangerine from inside Lodavo whenever you want. For the full picture, here is how Lodavo keeps your money safe and the draw provably fair.
Which Tangerine account should you track?
Connect the Tangerine account where your savings actually sit. Most users link one of these:
| Tangerine account | Good to track if |
|---|---|
| Tangerine Savings Account | You set money aside in a dedicated savings account |
| No-Fee Daily Chequing Account | You keep a steady cushion in your everyday account |
| TFSA Savings Account | You save inside a deposit-based Tax-Free Savings Account |
You can connect more than one Tangerine account, and the balances simply add up. What Lodavo cannot track yet is an investment account, so Tangerine Mutual Funds and the Global ETF Portfolios are out, since Lodavo reads a cash balance rather than a portfolio value. Stick to a savings or chequing account. There’s no minimum, and if you also bank somewhere else, you can link accounts at other Canadian banks too.
Troubleshooting a Tangerine connection
Most Tangerine links go through on the first try. The one you’re most likely to run into comes later:
- The weekly Security Code. With some setups, Tangerine asks for a fresh code about once a week before it will keep sharing your balance, so Lodavo will prompt you to reconnect. It’s outside Lodavo’s control, and Plaid is aware of it and working on a fix. Keep your phone nearby, because Tangerine sends the code by text or phone call under its 2-Step Authentication (opens in a new tab) settings.
- Sign-in details. Enter your current Client Number, card number, or username with your PIN on the secure screen, exactly as you would on Tangerine’s own site.
- Nothing updating. If a linked account stops refreshing, reconnect it inside Lodavo. That’s usually all it takes, and if you bank somewhere else too, you can track a deposit account there in the meantime.
Why prize-linked savings fits Tangerine customers
Canadians aren’t saving much right now. The household saving rate slowed to 3.5% in the first quarter of 2026, the lowest since early 2024, according to Statistics Canada (opens in a new tab). If you’re with Tangerine, you already went looking for a better home for your savings. The part a good rate can’t fix is the motivation to keep adding to it.
That’s what prize-linked savings is for. You keep your money in your own Tangerine account and still get a shot at winning: save, earn tickets, and you’re entered into a free weekly draw for up to $10,000, with a guaranteed prize of at least $100 going to a user every week. Nothing gets locked up, and nothing moves. New to the idea? Start with how prize-linked savings works in Canada.
