Lodavo is a Montreal fintech building a savings app that makes saving feel fun, rewarding and motivating. Saving is hard when money’s tight and costs keep rising, and plenty of people still spend on lotteries and gambling anyway. We’re building a way to point that same excitement at a balance that only goes up: connect the bank account you already use, watch your progress, and earn free tickets for weekly cash prizes up to $10,000.
We’re a small, fast-moving team of McGill and Concordia founders, software engineering and finance. Our accounts pull over a million views a month, we want to 10x that, and this role is a big part of how.
The internship runs through the Mitacs Business Strategy Internship. It pays $10,000 over a four-month term, funded in part by Mitacs and in part by us. You’d work directly with the founders on short-form vertical content and the campaigns that bring young Canadians to the app: brainstorm, script, film, edit, post. You’ll ship near-daily, own projects outright, and have the room to try things that might not work.
What you’d work on
- Short-form vertical content. Ideation, scripting, filming, editing, posting and repurposing across TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
- On-camera content. Talking-head explainers, street-style vox pops where they fit, day-in-the-life and b-roll storytelling, and adapting a trend before it’s over.
- Creative testing. Hooks, formats, covers, captions, CTAs, posting cadence, and simple A/B tests to find what actually lands.
- Community growth. Comments and DMs, the relevant subreddits, student Facebook and Discord groups. Building real awareness, not dropping links.
- Conversion. Copy tweaks on landing pages, emails, app-store messaging and in-app prompts, so the traffic you bring in turns into downloads.
- Now and then: paid social support on Meta and TikTok, finding and reaching out to creators, partnership content, and campaign planning.
- Startup events around Montreal with the rest of the team.
What we’re looking for
- You’re registered at a Canadian college or university. That’s what makes the Mitacs funding possible.
- You’re comfortable on camera and you can make a point clearly and confidently.
- You know the platforms and you see trends early, especially TikTok and Reels.
- You write well in short form: hooks, captions, CTAs.
- You’re organized, self-motivated, and you move fast on feedback.
- Personal finance interests you, or you’re curious enough to get good at it quickly.
Nice to have
- Bilingual, and comfortable creating in both French and English.
- Basic short-form editing: CapCut, Edits, Premiere, Final Cut, whichever you like.
- You’ve grown a personal or brand account and can show the numbers.
- Experience with creators, UGC or partnership content.
- Some familiarity with paid social, email marketing, or landing-page conversion.
- Whatever you’re studying is fine. Marketing, communications, journalism, film and media, engineering, business and finance all show up on this team. What you’ve made matters more than your program.
Apply even if you don’t tick every box. Creativity, hustle and a willingness to learn count for more here than a matching list.
The setup you’ll need
You’ll be filming and editing most days, so you’ll need:
- A smartphone with a good camera. It shoots and edits most of what you’ll make.
- Enough storage to record at high quality and edit without deleting a project halfway through.
- Somewhere quiet to film. A room with a door is plenty. Clean audio matters more than a nice background.
- A computer for editing, planning and meetings.
Where and when
Hybrid in Montreal. Two or three days a week in person with the founding team at our offices, and the rest wherever you work best.
Start as soon as you can. Budget about six weeks between us agreeing and your first day: that’s roughly how long the Mitacs application takes once we start it with you and your academic supervisor.
What you get
- $10,000 for the four-month term, funded in part through Mitacs.
- Direct work with the founders. There’s no layer of managers to get through.
- Your own channels to run, and the numbers to show for it afterwards.
- Real creative freedom. You pitch it, you make it, you post it.
- Work you can point to afterwards, made for a real audience.
Mitacs eligibility: you need to be a registered college, undergraduate or graduate student at a Canadian academic institution. Recent graduates can qualify at their institution’s discretion if the internship starts within two years of graduating.
